Have you heard of Reiki? It is a type of energy medicine discovered in 1922 by a Buddhist in Japan named Mikao Usui. While it was initially used just in Japan, Reiki proved to be a popular energy healing modality, and gradually came to be used in most countries in the world.
People use it regardless of their cultural or religious traditions, because Reiki is something separate from those things, and it is effective. In fact, it is very similar to the ancient Christian tradition of laying on of hands to heal people.
Using Reiki, practitioners tap into the energy of the universe and move this energy through their palms on and around their clients. This moving of energy promotes healing and well-being in both emotional and physical ways.
How is Reiki Used?
The universal energy that Reiki taps into is called qi (pronounced (kiː). It is considered the life force of the universe in many cultures. The points used in acupuncture, for example, are designed to move and balance qi for healing. The proven scientific effectiveness of acupuncture shows that there is something real to the idea of qi and how it can be used to heal.
Reiki is not meant to be used as a main healing method, and anyone with a serious medical condition should always follow their doctor's treatment orders. However, using Reiki can facilitate that healing, making it happen more quickly and/or increasing the effectiveness of conventional treatments.
This makes it an excellent complimentary healing modality for just about anything.
When people are ill, their qi is low, and using Reiki to move it around and strengthen it brings it up and promotes better health and happiness in that person. Strengthening the qi and moving it where it is most needed is also a wonderful method to relax and reduce stress, and many people use it for that alone.
What Does a Reiki Treatment Feel Like?
Some people don't feel anything during a Reiki treatment, as the practitioner doesn't actually touch the client. However, their hands move around very close to the client. Therefore, someone getting a treatment may feel the warmth from that person as the practitioner moves their hands.
Other people, especially those who are energy sensitive, may feel warmth radiating from their whole body, not just on top of it, or a tingly sensation that may produce goose bumps. Others just feel relaxation and strength flowing into them.
People have been known to experience emotional breakthroughs during Reiki treatments as well, and may have a wonderful emotional release, or an increase in feelings of peace, love, security, and overall wellbeing.
Getting Ready for Your Reiki Appointment
Wear comfortable clothing. You'll be fully clothed and lying down for your entire appointment, so loose-fitting clothes will feel the best. Your shoes should be sandals or sneakers that can easily be taken on and off, since you'll be removing them during your session.
Other than these things, come as you are. Your Reiki practitioner will assess where your qi is stagnant, blocked, or tangled. Then, he or she will move it around for you to it, so it flows smoothly and promotes healing.
If you want to improve your physical and emotional well being, there's no reason you shouldn't give Reiki a try. With decades of proven effectiveness by millions of people around the world, you can have the confidence of knowing it will do what you need it to do.
